"A long time ago," the narrator tells us, "the kingdom of heaven used to be beautiful and peaceful" . Now, he says, it's "nauseating, disgusting, and revolting" , and that's why nebiros has gone to hell. He's the enemy of belial's army, and he's in love with a woman named pamela. He says he'll return the cards that she gave him as payment for the boat ride to hell, but first, he wants to know what's going on with her. He asks if she's sure her eyes are okay, and she says they are. He tells her that he was on his way to see the devil, but he can't go there without going his name, harlequin, which means "the devil" in Greek. He wants to see her, too, because she reminds him of ash, the "true form" of the devil. He wonders why she is making a face like that, and asks her if she has the strength to rise again. She says she doesn't think she does, and the narrator asks her why she hasn't taken revenge on him. She asks if he wants revenge on her alone, or on someone without consideration. The narrator tells her he'd like to meet her after midnight, so that she can live a normal life.
