In this chapter, the reader is introduced to a character named Belus, who has been stabbed in the back by a long-horned beetle. Belus asks the reader to take a look at his wound and to read his fortune. He tells the reader that Belus is his only friend, and that he has lost his mother to trees and pollution. The reader then takes a picture of Belus and his grandfather, who are looking very happy. He takes the picture because he wants to give the boy some of the strawberry pie he has made for himself. The boy, who is named Nemo, has been brought to the hospital with a serious case of peritonitis, ruptured internal organs, and bleeding from the wounds he has received from the beetle. Nemo's father, who does not want to see his son, tries to stop the reader from reading the fortune.
