About This Chapter
"Wachet on watch" is the title of this chapter's epigraph. It's a quote from Voltaire's famous poem, "The Prince of Dishonesty and Falsehood," in which Voltaire describes himself as "the prince of deceit" and "a devil" . Corin asks if Corin believes in magic, and if he does, then Corin will float into the sea with satan's help. He tells Corin that if she is a witch, then she will sink into the water and float away with the assistance of satan. He also says that this card represents Corin trusting his inner voice , developing a relationship, and letting his "love light shine" shine. He wants to know what Corin means by "the blood from a Dragon's heart" , but Corin won't tell him what he means. He calls Corin "a feisty young lady," and says that if he apologizes for calling her a monster, Corin would think about it. He adds that he is a beautiful young man, and a tough guy, but a girl, after all, so Corin shouldn't act like that. He doesn'
