Mr. Lee returns to the school to tell his son that he has been called to the doctor, and that his father's health has improved. Lee tells him that his assistant, Mr. Pollard, has been hired to help him with his business. Lee asks if he can take over some of his classes for him, but Miss Quinlan says that she cannot because the students have already come to hear Lee's lectures. Lee says that he can prepare the notes for the lectures, but that he will have to prepare the teaching materials himself, which is not fair to him. Lee thanks him for his help, and says that the school has decided to postpone the enrolment of Kyle until next year.
