This chapter opens with a flashback to Emma's first day at school. She is dressed in her school uniform for the chorus's performance. She asks her teacher, Mr. Lee, if he has found the beads that she found at his house. He tells her that they are not his business and that they will go on the stage right now. When she returns, she finds that the beads belong to her friend, ariel, who is leading the chorus. She tells her friend that if she does not appear on stage, she will lose to Emma. She promises to collect the beads for her when the chorus is over.
