About This Chapter
The novel opens on a cold, windy day in Yokohama, Japan, where Hiroshi Uchida, the youngest rider in the history of the FIM Supermoto World Championship, is taking on the top riders from all over the world in the final round of the season. The scene opens with Hiroshi's father, Sanjito, in the middle of a conversation with his son about the upcoming race. He's been working on his novel, and he's worried that his son is going to miss the qualifying rounds. He tells his son to get out and ride, or else he'll miss the race. The father, however, is not worried about his son's lack of interest in riding. He just wants to know what's going on. He asks his son what time it is, and his son replies that it's too early to tell. He then asks his father if he can write his novel in a different place. His father says that he can't, because he has to finish his novel on time. His son says that's fine, he just needs to watch the race to make sure he doesn't miss any qualifying. He says that if his son starts riding, he won't be able to see the other riders, so he'd rather watch him than be in the same class as him. He also says that the girl will fall in love with him if he starts riding.
