The next morning, Dr. Rivers and his men go back to the camp to find the wounded. They find that the wounded have been taken to a hospital, where they are being treated for their wounds. Rivers tells the men that he will soon be returning to his own country, but first, he wants to thank them for saving his life. He tells them that his mother died when he was a young child, and his father was a gambler who was addicted to alcohol. He had to work very hard to pay off his debt, but when he thought life was going to get better, a big disaster came. His father sold him for food, and he has nowhere to go, so he asks Rivers if he can stay with him. Rivers says that he can do anything he asks, but that he is still not familiar enough with the surroundings to thank him.
