The next morning, the Governess arrives at the school to find that her sister has left early. The Governess tells her that she has been too busy with her business to speak with her. She asks her sister if she has gone to see Agnes, who is close to the teacher, and she says that Agnes is not there. She tells her sister that they should meet the following weekend. The two women are interrupted by the sound of a distant bell.
