About This Chapter
The narrator tells us that he didn't know he'd be running a marathon in the shape of a giant tricycle. He doesn't feel like he's in the best physical shape of his life. He's worried about the old man who's next to him in the race. The narrator asks the man if he feels hot, and the man says he does. He tells the narrator that he ordered takeout for him, and that's why he feels so hungry. The man asks if he can see the "immortal demon" at the rest stop, but the narrator says he can't, because it's hard for him to get his hands on the information. He says he'll hand the drink to the woman himself, and then he promises to hand it to her himself. He also says that the man is too humble to accept the drink from someone who appeared from "godknows" , and he slaps the man for being so humble. He then tells the man that he already has one foot buried on the ground, and says he shouldn't be trying to hit his baby. He goes on to say that it'll be too hard for the man to go up on a wheelchair, because he can only stand up. He adds that he can stand up on his tricycle, too, because there's so much going on in the world. He asks the men why they're here, and they tell him that their grandfather found them a job-study opportunity pushing a wheelchair. The men decide to join in the fun, so they charge a ridiculous amount of money. The
