Mr. Zhang and his son, Dagen, have just returned from picking wild fruits in the mountains. They're not hungry, they say, and they're just cooking up some home-cooked food. Dagen asks what's in the fertilizer that makes the green onions so tasty and so fragrant. He's just trying to figure out how to make the most of everything. He wants to dip his toes in the water to see how poisonous it is, so he's going to buy some green onions and dip them in the sauce. He tells his uncle that he'll call on his wife later, and she'll be happy to give him a heads-up when he gets home. He also tells his son that his shop is on Greengrass Street, which is called Le-You-Restaurant. The next day, he says, the place is so extravagant that it looks like a peasant's shop. He calls on his son to get out of the way, and he tells him that if he won't leave, he'd get rid of him himself. He says that his daughter, xianzi, is destined to be his one day, and that's why he wants to see her.
