About This Chapter
The landlord of the apartment where the play is to be performed is asleep, and the tenants are busy helping him out. The landlord asks the tenants if they have spoken to sayoko, and they all say yes. He tells them that he spoke to her, and that she came to the theater to see the play, but that she turned him down because she was worried about the future. He asks her if she thinks she is better than him, and she says that she thinks so, but she doesn't want him to hide anything from her. She tells him that the play that she saw at the theater was like a knife-hand, and everyone laughed at it, and he realized that he had messed up. He says that the three guys with him the other day had "depressed skull fractures" , and when he said that, they all smiled, showing off their dimples. He thinks that it would be a good idea to show off her canines in the play. He thanks the tenants for reading, and says that he looks forward to seeing sayoko. He also says that they have added dates to the play so that people will be able to come see it. He adds that he is sure that there will be a lot of people who will want to see sayoko play the role of yamazaki, and so he can do it, even if he is worried about lines. He wonders if aki and him have kept in touch, and wonders if they've called each other by their roles.
