In this short scene, the Governess tells her servant that she loves him so much that she's willing to die to protect him. The Governess asks the marshal to get her a passport so that she can go to China. The marshal says that he already has a passport for her, but that's for someone else. She asks him to cough up some money and change his name to "Miss Gu" in order to get a passport. The Marshal says that the bank account for him was originally meant for China, but now that he cares so much about Miss Gu, he's thinking differently. He's worried that if Miss Gu runs away, she'll leave his side. He also worries that she won't be able to live on her own, since she has no money. He wants to change his bank account into Miss Gu's name so that Miss Gu can still live by herself if she runs away. He says that if she does run away, he wants her to still have a way to support herself. He doesn't want Miss Gu to run away from him, he says, because he'll never let her go.
