The chapter begins with a description of the three barriers that separate humans from the outside world: the first is a physical barrier, the second is a psychological barrier, and the third is an invisible barrier. The third barrier is stronger than the first, and it allows monsters with human-level intelligence to live inside of human territory. However, there are also illegal ways to get monsters in the territory, as well. The chapter ends with a soliloquy by the protagonist, in which he explains that he does not care what the protagonist does to the rest of the party, as long as he is done sketching.
