The narrator is worried that the old lady will not accept the marriage proposal, but he is sure that she will accept it. He tells her that they are a family now, and that they will have a formal meeting after the wedding. He then tells her about the news that he has just received. He asks her if she has fallen in love with the man, and she tells him that she has no idea. She then asks him if he would fall in love if he were to marry her. He says that he would. She asks if he is drunk, and he says he is. She tells him he looks a lot different from before, and asks if the doctor is drunk. He replies that he is, and they have to carry the man back to his house. He is so heavy that they must carry him back. They then ask her what is in his mind after hearing what she has said. She says that she must have been angry with him, but that he did not know what he had done wrong
