About This Chapter
In this chapter, Mina learns that she is now alone with no one to talk to. She feels alone because she has no idea how to deal with the situation without Vincente. Mina tells her aunt that she has seen that Vincente cannot be resurrected, and that living cannot touch the dead. She tells her that she must learn to carry on for her own sake and not live the past. Mina says that she feels stronger than she was before, but that does not make her any less empty. She says that even an "unemotional pile of stones" knows that the time he has left in life is valuable. She asks Mina if she is feeling all right, and Mina says she feels fine.
