About This Chapter
In the lobby of the Hotel Knightus, Vincent confesses to Nelly that he's so sorry that the prince has returned. He's sure that there's a fancy new building on top of the stairs, and he wants to go check it out. He asks Nelly if she'd like to meet some "secret agents" , and she's all, "Sure, I'll do that for you" . She's totally cool with that, but she doesn't want to tip the prince. She tells him to be careful with his suitcase, and not to worry that she'll have to tip him. She also tells him that ghosts are "tricksy" and that they get into people's souls, just like human agents do. She asks if she can see that Vincent is still there, and Nelly says, "No, I can't see that, honey." She also warns him not to tip her, because "ghosts are tricksy," and she tells him, "you know, brother, you know, as well as I do, that human agents, who fail to do their jobs, are turned into cleaner." She asks him to ring for the prince, who always seems to be so prompt at answering the bell. Vincent confesses that he keeps thinking about the fountain in front of the hotel's lobby. He wants to know if he can open the door to see what's in the water there. He says he'll scratch his eyes out if he does, and then he swears that it's Vincent. He tells Nelly to get her hands off him, because they were supposed to help him, but they don't listen to him. He also tells her that even if he were suffering, he wouldn't hurt her.
