About This Chapter
The next morning, Vincent and the Governess ride into town. The Governess tells Vincent to hurry up before she sends him away. She tells him that Isabella has had a fit and won't let him take her medicine either. Vincent wonders why they hate the woods so much. He remembers when the town was going to rebuild its church. All the tourists were supposed to come back, and the town would be a living one again. They find some gravestones. They look around and see a little plaque behind a glass wall. They wait for some "luck or fate" to set them in the "tin stone towers" and free them from the "hooden watcher" at the door. The plaque says, "Here at the bottom . . is your signature. " They wait in the dark until "some luck or fate set us in the tin stone towers." They wait until they are "locked in alcoves" and "free" from the hooded watcher. They are waiting for "some ol mind" to "look and see."
