"The death wish goes ah" , the narrator tells us, and the two of them decide to wear mourning clothes in honor of Vincent's death. The narrator says he's not sure if she's feeling well, but she'll be okay. The two decide to go for a walk in the hot, humid marshland. They're not sure where they're going, but the narrator says they'll find a way to get there. He's sure that Vincent would've figured out the riddle of the ghost's whereabouts, but he doesn't know how to solve the riddle. He wonders if the ghost is around them, like the ghost in the "macheree" that they encountered before, or if it's just a matter of breaking their wills and moving on. He tells the narrator to stay focused and to try to pull the ghost out of the way. He says that he'll do that, too, if he can. He blames himself for letting Vincent go, because he was so home when he died, and he says that she can't blame herself for letting herself be overcome by grief. She tells him to "fight it" and not give up, because she still needs him. She's sorry, she says, because wolves are here, and she'd better get them out of there ASAP. She says that the ghosts are coming, and that they've been following her for a long time. She realizes that she gave up on Vincent because it was selfish of her to do so.
