The scene opens with a conversation between xiangwang and hm. . Weiyi tells us that she was absent from the opening of the play the day before, and that she's looking forward to meeting the director. He's staring at her with intense intensity, and she tells him that he looks like he's in love with her. He tells her to take leave of master guang, and weiyi tells him to take care of the actress he mentioned earlier. Master guang tells her that he heard from uyiran that she took up the play, and he thinks he'll see her a lot more, too. Master li, the costume designer, tells Weiyi that he knows her from when they were young. He asks her if she has done anything "unspeakable" in her acting career. She says she hasn't, but she'll be happy to correct him if he feels that she has spoken out of her mind. She asks if she can visit her today or not, and if she should come to see her tomorrow. She's already visited her once before, so why should she have to visit her again? She asks why he wants to torture her, or why he is lonely, or what's his idea.
