This chapter opens with a flashback to the previous chapter, in which the master explains that the brand has not yet spread and that he is still waiting for the master to return. He then explains that he has a girlfriend and that she is willing to take the place of the master if the master confesses to her. The flashback also reveals that the master has transferred the condition that he must have someone willing to die in order to confess to the master. The master then tells the reader that the marriage with the mistress will take place soon.
