In this short scene, Desdemona asks her father how he's doing, and he tells her that things are going well. He's busy, he says, but he'd like to be more honest with her, so that she won't fail as a leader or as a father. He says that he was joking a little too much, and that's why he didn't shake him off. He doesn't want to tell her what's going on, though.
