The narrator wakes up in the middle of the night to find that her dream has come true. She tells herself that she's finally met her father, and that he's here. She asks him to go home and have dinner with her, but he says he'll have to wait until tomorrow. He also tells her that Ethan is busy today, so they're going to have dinner together tonight. He'll meet her after dinner, he says, and then they'll talk about what's going on in the house after dinner. He tells her to hang out in her room and wait for him, but she doesn't want to do that, so she says she'll wait a little bit. She's not sure what to eat for dinner, and she can't even remember what to do with her shoes. The narrator goes to find Ethan, who's waiting for his father.
