About This Chapter
In this short scene, Shylock tells the audience that he has bumped into the king of Askapura, who is also the father of Shylock's daughter-in-law, the beautiful princess Sheena. He tells her that she is loud, difficult to handle, and that she does not listen to anything he says. He says that she should be more careful with her manners in the future, because she will be able to control her emotions better. Shylock then goes on to say that he is sorry that the palace is too beautiful for him, but he is so stupid that he cannot bear to be humiliated. He adds that if the palace continues to be so beautiful, he will be even more careful in his manners. He then says that he will take leave of the palace and go back to his own home. He is so shocked by the king's rudeness that he can hardly bear to leave the palace. He also says that all the noble women who were supposed to be married to the king have already left the palace because of the rudeness of the king. He asks her where she is going, and she tells him that she wants to go to the palace so that she can tell the king that she has been a good queen consort. She says that the fate of the kingdom lies in her hand.
