It's nine o'clock in the morning, and the weather's still pretty good outside. The narrator tells us that he's woken up to find his dad telling him he needs to get his "arse out of bed" . He's going to go to his job at the Home Office in London, which is supposed to be a super-important job for a guy like him. The guy's got a plan: he'll go to the Orkney Islands, which are just off the coast of Scotland, and report back to his boss in London. The Home Office is responsible for security in Scotland, so it's kind of a big deal for the guy to go there.
