About This Chapter
This chapter's epigraph comes from a poem by Edgar Allan Poe. In it, Edgar says that he is about to wrestle with a "creature with nine-inch claws" , but that he can't reach the creature because it is too strong. He tells the reader that he will be the "god of darkness" and that people will fall to his feet. He promises that he and thorne will rule the world together. He also tells Edgar that he knows where his power lies, and he tells him to remember where thorne belongs. He says that she was never so chatty as she is now, and that her constant meddling is becoming tiresome. She tells him that she will kill her sister, and she says that the devil will take her to her. She says that it will be too long since she has been strong enough to rule over the world. She asks Edgar to come out with his hands up and kill her. He agrees, and they promise that they will always be together. She thanks him for saving her, and says that everything will be okay now that she has found the cure for her mother's fever.
