About This Chapter
In this chapter, we learn that the emperor has decided to punish feng-changqing for his treacherous failure. The emperor's envoy, Luo feng-xian, arrives with the good news that he has been pardoned by the emperor and ordered back to the city of Shanzhou to join the campaign against the Mings. In gratitude, he offers 10,000 to the emperor for sparing his life. However, he is unable to visit the Ming camp at Hang'an Pass because the pass is too far away. He therefore offers his life for the sake of the Ming army. He first wishes to behead himself in the capital, then condemn himself as a traitor, and finally beg the emperor to allow him to be killed on the battlefield.
