During the twelfth year of the Ming dynasty, an enemy lushan has conquered the province of Luoyang, and a month's supply of the county of Yang. The generals of the province are waiting for an opportune moment to counter attack. Fan yang, a former soldier, tells the general that he followed him four years ago on the conquest of talas, and that the only defeat he suffered was at the battle of the same place. He says that he survived the battle, but that by chance he was saved by people from the west. He explains that once he kills the two generals, the people of Yang will see that there is hope, and they will join the resistance army. The twenty-four counties will join in the fight against the enemy, and the lushan will be cut off from his route. Fan Yang says that killing the generals will not be easy, as they are guarded by ordinary people. He adds that changshan will be heading to the pass tonight, and he will wait until they are drunk to kill them. The civilian army has gathered outside the pass, ready to ambush them.
