In this chapter, we are introduced to a new character named "Pavaratty" , who is introduced as a "ferret girl" . We learn that she is the daughter of a schoolteacher and that her mother is the founder of a school in the town of Valle de Guadalupe, in the state of Texas. We are also introduced to "amanda," the protagonist's mother, who has just sent her daughter to school dressed in a "florissant peach fuzz" outfit. We also learn that "Kim," the mother of the protagonist, has made the protagonist wear a "dumb costume" in order to "get her to like me." The protagonist, however, is determined to prove his worth to his mother by wearing a proper outfit.
