In this chapter, we're introduced to a new character, Zilla. She's the cat's caretaker, and she's kind of mad because she doesn't know how to take care of the cat. Zilla tells us that magical cats have contracts with their "witches" . Basically, the cat gets a certain amount of magic from the witch, and the witch gives it back to the cat in exchange for the cat using the magic to help her. The only problem is that the cat can only use the magic for a limited amount of time, and that's why it can't go back to being a normal cat. This is a big problem for Zilla, because if the cat runs out of magic, it's going to be very hard for her to find her master. She says she'll have to detain the cat for a month until she can find him.
