This chapter opens with a description of the life of a soldier and his wife. Both of them worked for the King of a neighboring kingdom. They were very close to the Princess of the kingdom. One day, a war lord tried to destroy the kingdom, but the King ordered his soldiers to fight. The war ended with victory for the kingdom and the King nominated the soldier to become a Knight of the Round Table. The soldier had no will and no reason to follow after his family. His wife had written him a letter saying that she wanted him to care for the princess.
