The narrator tells us that he's surprised to see that kun is in a suit. He's also surprised to find out that the two of them have been worried about him for a long time. The narrator says that he tries to act like a friend, but he can't because he knows that they're kind people. He also says that, in his heart, he always thought of nishiki as his friend. He says that even before they met, he tried to distance himself from her because his dad was always talking about her. He wants to talk to atsumori's dad while his grandpa is still at home, so he asks him to invite him to dinner. His grandpa says that it looks like his son will be discharged soon, and he apologizes to the narrator for worrying him. He tells him to listen to what his son has to say, and the narrator tells him that he has a right to tell his son how to behave. He asks if she's okay with that, and she says that she is. She says that if it were her, she would be happy with him. She thanks him for always caring about her, and says that part of her has always depended upon him. They say goodbye, and then she asks him if he was feeling down. He replies that he was, and that he just wanted to see her.
