All of the mermaid members come down with an illness, and they go to the guild to find out what's wrong. They find out that ainelle is a slave trader who's trying to kidnap mermaids. They decide to go after her, but they can't find her anywhere. They need the magical serum to cure the mermaids, so they're going to have to split up the task of searching for her. They're not going to be able to find her until they find her, and she's not even one of the "small fry" that they think they are. They don't need to worry about the small fry, they just need to find a way to get the magic serum to her. She's the only one who can figure out how to get it to her, so she'll have to copy it for her own use. She doesn't want to be the one who has to kill a woman in order to get her magic serum. She thinks that's a bad idea, because she'd rather die than have to kill the woman. She also thinks that if she dies, the other mermaids will die too, since they'll be the ones who need the magic potion to cure them.
