The narrator returns to the library and finds that the grass has grown a lot in the last year. He can't figure out where he's been. He wonders if Iris is living in the basement or if she's in the library. He asks her why she would want to know what's wrong with him, and she tells him that his body is "full of keratin" . The narrator tells her that she'll have to touch him to get him to tell her what happened, and then she leaves.
