About This Chapter
In this short scene, the protagonist explains that he was a "100%" from the start of the story, and that he has lost the fight because he does not have the "guts" to "check it out" on his own. He has been invited to a reunion dinner at which the protagonist saw the protagonist's ex-girlfriend. The protagonist tells the protagonist not to let Dr. Kishida's "cool and cute" qualities distract him from his feelings for the protagonist. He also tells her that he will do his best to take the assistant manager's shares as well. He tells Kishida that he went to the market the day before, but that it is "depends on the age" . He asks the protagonist if he is satisfied with the food he has brought, and the protagonist replies that he is. He then asks Kishida about his wife's and daughter's, and he says that he would prefer beef "bone soup" whenever he dined with a young woman. He says that when he came to Japan, Kishida did not feel like a "stranger" because he looked like his wife when he was young. He adds that since he has not had children, he has amassed a large fortune. He wants to use it "meaningfully" , so he wants to invest in the hospital. He suggests that they have a drink at the hotel's lounge bar instead of a sauna, but the protagonist declines, saying that he must return to work.
