In this chapter, we are introduced to a new character named Sol. He is a young man who has just returned from a trip to Europe. We learn that he is a member of the Brotherhood, a religious organization dedicated to the revival of Christianity in Europe. Sol's presence in the Brotherhood reminds us that the Brotherhood's mission is to restore Christianity to its former glory. We are also told that Sol is the son of a wealthy Jewish family, and that his father's name is Wolsey. The Brotherhood has a long tradition of fighting for the rights of black people in Europe, and this tradition is still alive and well in the U.S.
