About This Chapter
The narrator and his friend Hiroshi take a tour of the art galleries in the city of kanazawa. Hiroshi tells the narrator that he has bought some work clothes for his students and that he is looking forward to seeing the works in the galleries. The narrator is eager to see the works of other young artists, and he gives Hiroshi a flyer for an exhibition. He says that he looks forward to the trip with Hiroshi, but that he cannot let the chance slip away. He tells Hiroshi that he believes that they can move forward together, and that the trip will be a "real couples trip" . He gives the flyer to Hiroshi and invites him to have a beer at the gallery. As they talk, the narrator notices that the artist's brushstrokes make a "clear shape" , and the sense he got was that he was not frightening as he had thought. He asks Hiroshi if he would like to lend the paintings to him, and Hiroshi says that the paintings originally belonged to his older brother, who is very good at painting. He adds that he would be happy to lend them to the narrator, even though he is far away from the city.
