About This Chapter
"Triennale" is the Italian word for an art exhibit. It means something that happens once or twice every three years. It's an exhibit of works by Hiroshi Uchida and Nozomuuchida. The two artists have been working together for a while, and they've just been accepted into the Oedo College of the Arts. Hiroshi and Nozomi are psyched to be going to Oedo, and Hiroshi says he's always wanted to be a furniture designer. He's also psyched about the fact that he'll be able to make his own stuff, which is a big deal in the industrial world. He wants to make something with his own hands, so he makes a wooden stick out of wood and sticks his own hair out of it. The artist is Hiroshi's friend, and he likes older people, too. He likes to think of himself as a person above all else. He doesn't know what he wants to do with his life, but he likes the idea that there's someone like him out there. He tells Hiroshi to have some coffee, because he won't let his emotions get in the way of his work. He also tells her that she shouldn't worry about what Hiroshi thinks of her, because she's too busy to worry about her own feelings. She tells him to go buy some snacks, because it's his bad mood. She also tells him that he looked forward to the trip with Hiroshi, but now that they're alone together, he can't bear it any longer.
