The chapter opens with the narrator running away from the convention. He's not sure where he's gone, but he does know that he ran away because he heard voices talking to him. He doesn't know what to do with himself, so he goes to stay with his brother and sister-in-law for the night. When he wakes up, he finds that his watch is broken. He tells his brother that it's been a long weekend, and that he feels different. He also tells him that he'll run away if he thinks that he is "the queen of stealth" or something. He asks if he asked Mina to marry him, and she says yes. He says that she's in high school in the east coast of the United States, not the west coast. He compares her to a puppy dog, and says that he wishes he could go home with her.
