The scene opens with a flashback to the beginning of the previous chapter, in which we learn that the Governess is in the midst of a sexual encounter with a young man. The young man is a "devil in the suit" . The Governess blushes at the sight of the "devil" in her presence, and she begins to worry that the encounter will lead to a sexual relationship between her and the man. However, the young man reassures her that he will "get rassed" by the encounter, and he promises to give her the object of his affection if she wants it.
