About This Chapter
The two of them decide to go for a walk together, and the narrator tells us that they've decided to go "back to being just a friend" . The narrator says that he's noticed that the two women are acting very different from one another, and that he suspects that the women are in love with each other. He tells the narrator that he doesn't want to hurt his feelings, but he also wants to protect his friend from the "coldhearted guys" with "good looks" who are "always making a mess" of her. He asks the narrator to tell his friend the truth about the women's relationship, so that he can "protect her." The narrator tells him that he has "fallen for her" , and he asks if the narrator has "actually fallen for her." He says that the narrator is "a loser" who has fallen for a woman
