In this short scene, the protagonist, who has just returned from a trip to the university, is overcome with grief at the loss of his friend's umbrella. He is also overcome with fear that he has caught a cold and that his chest is getting tight. He wonders if he will see the protagonist again if he returns to retrieve his lost umbrella. The protagonist, however, does not want to return the umbrella because he is afraid that the thief will use it to cover up their crime. He also fears that the protagonist's illness may have something to do with the theft of his umbrella.
