In this chapter, we learn that the box containing the forbidden fruit was found in the attic by a girl named Utsuka. The girl, whom we now learn is disguised as a young boy, had bought the box with the money she earned from the sale of the fruit. The boy, who is now disguised as an old man, is angry that the girl has stolen the box. He is also angry that she has not given him the opportunity to return the box to him. He tells the girl that if she does not return it, he will grow more and more mushrooms.
