In this 30 day flashback, we learn that Chihiro is indebted to his uncle, who is also a member of the Yanase family, for his help in saving his life. The uncle is clearly a man, and he is clearly part of the family. We learn that he works at the same firm as Chihiro, and the uncle is shocked to learn that the company is run by a man.
