In the woodshed, Ming tells jing-jing that he has just heard that the city has sealed its four gates to the ice-cold city. He also tells him that the manager of the pavillion has died. Ming decides to leave the city and wait for his master's skill to be perfected. He plans to sneak out of the city after the knife has been cut.
