In this chapter, Ren tells the reader that he and his companions are facing many threats, including ancient beasts that have survived for thousands of years. Ren tells us that the guardians of the west include the holy see, the successors of Greek mythology, and the qilins, who have been killed during the recent conflict between the east and west. He tells Ren that he is destined to be one of these five generations, and Ren asks if he is afraid of being beaten up.
