In this chapter, the protagonist explains that he is writing a letter to Lin, but he does not know how to do so. He is afraid that the letter will be misunderstood and that Lin will misunderstand him. He suggests that the protagonist take the letter to the Post Office and burn all of the letters there. He tells the protagonist to hurry up and send the letter as soon as possible. The protagonist asks the protagonist if he has some silver, and the protagonist tells him that he has a bag full of it. He then tells him to come to the tea house and wait for him, as he is going to register for the post office. He says that he wants to send a letter for the lunar new year, and that he will have to wait for it to arrive. When the protagonist arrives, he is greeted by the protagonist's brother, who asks him if he would like to sit by the window and drink some tea. After the protagonist leaves, he asks the brother what is wrong with him. The brother says that Lin is obviously dead, and he should stop talking and send it to Lin as fast as he can
