About This Chapter
The ship is ready to leave for England. The alchemist tells the ship's master that he hopes the woman on the boat will be able to help them find the Coffer. The woman, he says, will also know where the potion is. He tells the alchemist to go to the temple of Cluny, which is on the opposite side of the dock from the ship. Cluny's temple is guarded by an owl, which means that the first person to move is likely to be the pope's personal envoy. The man who moves first is the one who wants to see edra, and the alchemist says that he should have gone to see the pope himself, but he is too late. He says that the woman in the boat is doing what the god put her to do, and that she will never get out of her cell again. He has some of his potion, which he says is the body of the "hound of god" . He asks the alchemist if Cluny is really dead, but the alchemist replies that he is not. He then asks the king if he has any sense of decency. The king says he does not, and he asks for the alchemist's help. He orders the doctor to come and see the king's brain, and says that if the alchemist does not bring the potion, he will deal with the monasteries that Cluny was after. He also asks where brother Elric is, since the king just found him a changeling. The two men agree that the king has discovered that Elric was a "changeling" and that his brain was "yellow." The alchemist gives the alchemist a receipt
