In this chapter, we learn that the fox family is once again involved in some sort of supernatural disaster. The ghost of the fox pupil has reappeared in the form of a nightmare flag, which is a symbol of the snake's ruin. This is the same nightmare flag that caused the fox clan's disaster a hundred years before. This means that some of the people who were involved in the disaster were able to get part of the evil that was sealed under the family's altar, and escaped. The grandfather tells the shop owner that he will have someone go find the pupil. The shop owner wonders if the old man is angry, but he assures him that everything that happened was too scary. He offers to take out his most recent invention, the rock sugar gourd, in exchange for two strings of the gourd. He also offers instant noodles, stinky tofu, and crystal sugar farmhouse pigtrotters. He tells the owner that if he still wants to talk to him, he can flip the shop.
