When the scene opens, Hirokazu is in the middle of a conversation with his friend, Mr. Mimakihara, about his recent visit to Akashima. He is surprised to learn that the two men are on their way out, and he is upset that he has not been able to express his dissatisfaction with the situation. He tells his friend that he is going to hit him again if he does not apologize for his behavior. He also tells him that if he apologizes, he will not need to apologize at all. As he is about to leave, he hears the sound of a car approaching. He realizes that it is the same car that he saw earlier in the day, and that it has come to pick him up at the station. He asks the driver to take him to the station, but the driver refuses, saying that he will have to wait for him at home
