Dr. Higuchi asks how long he'll be on the island before he dies. He's already been there for two years, and he's going to be back in the spring to see if he can live up to his reputation as a "fine doctor" . The local fishermen are holding a fishing festival, and everyone is excited to see the local fishermen parade their fishing boats. Dr. Hiroguchi is there, too, and the whole town is psyched to see him. He asks if everyone will be able to come back for the fishing festival in the afternoon, and they all say they can. He says that if he is in love with the island, then he has what it takes to do the job, and that's why he came to the island in the first place. He also asks if Hiroguchi wants him to check the net for the night shift that night, and Hiroguchi says yes. He tells him that he doesn't want to ask his wife to stay, because he wants to get a long-distance relationship with her, and then follow her to "tokyo" , which is where she's supposed to go. The doctor says that his older brother told him the same thing, which makes him all excited. He wants to take a picture of the fishing boat parade, but he can't find it.
